Anyway, there are MANY MANY good food in Maxwell, but due to stomach space and time limit, i got to only try a few of the TOP FAVOURITE dishes there! READY?

HAINANESE CURRY RICE @ #01-68 (middle stretch)

IMG_3311

There are a number of curry rice stall in Maxwell, so remember the stall number and the signboard! :) Just in case! Else you can determine by the LONG QUEUE too!

Look YUMMY RIGHT? Actually hor! I think I take nice picture leh, don’t know why my friends always commented that I have no talent!!! hahahaha… I LOVE the curry! SUPER NICE! It just goes so WELL with the rice! Every plate of rice will be DRENCH with a scoop of curry sauce before the side dishes go on top of it, this is to ENSURE that the RICE IS SOAK WITH THE CURRY!!! (salivate now :P) I ordered the famous pork chop to go with my curry rice, what i meant is curry rice MUST go with PORK CHOP de!!! I LOVE the pork chop! REALLY! i have eaten many pork chop, most are too dry, but this is really crispy and well marinated… THUMBS UP! (4.3/5.0)

75 PEANUTS SOUP 57 @ #01-57

IMG_3316

My love-hate story with peanut tang yuan soup! haahaahaa… i love the peanut soup base! Theirs are not too sweet, peanut are soft yet not soggy and not too many peanut… LOVE the TANG YUAN! I mean the picture speaks a thousand word right? It is as firm as a fish ball, the ingredient is SO FULL that it flows out with one bite! (3.9/5.0)

JIN HUA FISH HEAD BEE HOON @ #01-77

IMG_3320

There are SERIOUSLY two LONG queue for fish head noodle in Maxwell! I was torn to have to choose one stall and GUAI GUAI queue up for my turn…

Well…Don’t ask me if I regret queuing for this fish head noodle… because i haven’t got the chance to try the other one out… The thick Bee Hoon they use are quite SPECIAL! firm and thinner as compared to others… The fish meat are fresh and the soup is SEDAP! (3.9 / 5.0)

HENG HENG TAPIOCA CAKE #01-31

IMG_3309

This is AMAZING tapioca cake stall! YOU GOT TO TRY! i mean no harm lah for a change of CHINESE DESSERT to put a full stop for your lunch!

The tapioca cake is not too sweet, soft and chewy! First time I fall in love with tapioca cake! :) I always though oned oned are green, but these brown ones are irresistible too! They are still WARM when i bought them! With one bite, the coconut juice just flow into your mouth! The uncle also introduce me to this peanut Mau Chee lookalike! Anyway I would not really recommend… hahahahaha… (3.8/5.0)

Anyway thanks for staying tune for my blog entry! I would like to thank those unwavering support (I really don’t know who on earth are you) that have been reading my post even when i was SUPER UNACTIVE! THANK YOU! :)

Nakhon Kitchen

i forgot when was the last time i blogged! ohmytian! did all of you miss me? heeheehee… okok… i know you did, else you won’t be tuning in to read my blog right? :)

Today i shall blog about the thai food that i visited last thursday! After a long day at work, having some good food is the best way to end the day! So my dearest colleagues suggested that we should visit this thai food place that is quite popular! And here we go….

Nakhon Kitchen

IMG_2299

hello! i took these photos with my dearest iPhone! Not too bad right? hahahaha… anyway, i heard this Nakhon Kitchen is quite famous! They have two outlets, one in Hougang another in Bedok. Upon reaching the place, it was quite crowded though it is around 8 plus 9pm… Here i am EXCITED and HUNGRY! hahaaha… okay, 废话不多说, lets go into the FOOD!

Mango Thai Salad (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_2302

I am quite excited when it comes to mango thai salad! It’s hard to find one that is perfect! hmmm… this is okay, just a bit too sour for my liking… supposedly should help to 开胃 (increase your appetite), but end up it is too sour, way too little vegetable…

Thai Vermicelli (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_2301

Okay, i think from the picture you could guess what i am going to say… every mouth i ate, it is ingredient more than the ‘Dang Hoon’! OMG! i think they are WAY TOO generous with the ingredient and WAY TOO stingy with the 'MAIN CHARACTER’… Oh well, my friend says its quite authentic… (i can’t really comment if it is authentic, cos i have not been to Thailand to try!) but for my taste bud, i think it is acceptable average. :)

Phad Thai (Rating: 3/5)

IMG_2305

I tried many Phad Thai, this is okay… I like the way they fried their Phad Thai… Just nice! A good balance of the ingredient and the ‘MAIN CHARACTER’…i think they can be a little more generous with their bean sprout… :)

Stir Fried Vegetable (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_2303

Look awesome right? I am so amazed that my iPhone can take such great pictures!!!! More garlic would be great! This dish so-so… But it’s good to add some vegetable to all the oily food we ordered!

Honey Chicken (Rating: 3.2/5.0)

IMG_2306

Confession to be made here! This chicken is nice, yummy, crispy … BUT VERY VERY OILY! it is SINFUL, especially when you are chewing on the crispy chicken skin! BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! :) i love their honey chicken! 吃了还想再吃!

Tom Yum Soup (Rating: 2/5)

IMG_2307

i know i am quite stingy with my rating… this tom yum soup is really below average! it is too sour, not spicy at all… the ingredient is normal… overall, not appetizing… tom yum soup is the basic of all thai food and it came really disappointing…

Deep Fried Thai Fish (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_2309

The fish is fresh, lotsa meat and well fried… not to be mistaken, those yellow bits are pineapples… i think they could replace with mango, it would be close to perfect! haahaahaa… i would say, no regret for ordering this fish! :)

Olive Rice (Rating: 1.2/5.0)

IMG_2310

SERIOUSLY! the olive rice is WAY WAY WAY below average!!!! left 60% untouched by all of us! The rice is too hard, no olive rice fragrant… almost like black sauce rice… I heard it is quite good usually… maybe i am not in the luck, maybe the chef that day is not in the right mood… hahahaha… i would give it another chance when i visit the Hougang outlet… :)

Lastly, all meal SHOULD end will DESSERT!

Tapioca with Coconut Milk (Rating: 2.5/5)

IMG_2312

i like their warm tapioca with the coconut milk… It is not too sweet… after eating a few pieces, you won’t have the ‘Ger-Luch’ feeling… i think overall it is okay! :)

Mango with Sticky Rice (Rating: 2.5/5.0)

IMG_2313

i am SO-LOOKING-FORWARD to this Mango Sticky Rice! i think overall this dessert is okay! Not too sweet, the overall feel is not ‘Ger-Luch’… i think maybe for this dish, they can make it a little more sweeter… or have Durian sticky rice instead… need a PUNCH! hahahaha… :)

Overall, i think this place serve good thai food… i mean authentic or not, i cannot judge… but their fried items are good… I would give other dessert a try…  would love to try their green curry and also pandan chicken… Yup, hopefully i find time to visit their Hougang outlet one of these day! :) If you have tried this Nakhon Kitchen, share with me your experience!!!

Hereby, i would like to say, thank you for your support and STAY TUNE! :)

 EGGS BENEDICT @ $16 (Rating: 4.5/5.0)

LOOK AWESOME RIGHT!!! it TASTE AWESOME TOO~!!! i really LOVE this Eggs Benedict! it is simply awesomely NICE! especially for those egg yolk lovers like me!!! me me me me!!! i love those uncooked egg yolks bursting in your mouth… Trust me, when i have sunny side up and if my egg yolk is overcooked, it will spoil my mood for the whole day! it is that SERIOUS!

Their egg benedicts consist of 2 Poached Eggs, Honey Baked Ham, Streaky Bacons, Hollandaise Sauce, English Muffin & served with Arugula… hmmm… NICEYYYYSEEE… (another unsound word i invented bcos of food!) ONE LAST PICTURE OKAY??? pls pls pls ….

IMG_1241

IMG_1235

Lor Mee @ Bukit Purmei

On the way to prive, my cousin was boasting about this legendary (some say best in Singapore) Lor Mee… so we decided to give it a try after our LIGHT brunch! hahahaha… i was rather excited about it, as i heard a lot about it from another friend who really love Lor Mee… no harm trying right? heehee…

Not too sure if you know t

what greeted us was shocking!

IMG_1254

A SUPER LONG QUEUE!!!!

hahahahaha… it is almost 3pm and what were these people doing here? Queuing for Lor Mee!!!! my excitement was washed away by the long queue and eventually from excitement it turns to skepticism… please let it not fail me hor~

Finally after 20 min, it is almost our turn!!!!

Bukit Purmei Lor Mee (Rating: 3.2 / 5.0)

IMG_1268

Presenting to you~~~~ Bukit Purmei Lor Mee!

They have three pricing with three different colors of bowl to differentiate…

Red: $2.50 / Green: $3.00 / Yellow: $3.50

i know right? i was so bored when i was queuing that i even have the time to check out the colors of the bowl! hahahaha… okay let’s start with what i love about this stall, their generosity of ingredients! Fish Cake, Char Siew, 五香, 三成肉, 脆脆 (crispy flour) and some other unknown items that i can’t figure out what… anyway… what i dislike about their Lor Mee is their base, taste a little too blend for me… overall, i think not really worth the queue lah… but no harm to try if you are near the place! According to my cousins, their base will stay as sticky after you have stir a multiple time… :)

Pocky Love Affair

after the very FULL attempt of Lor Mee, we head home for a session of kinect… and we bought a series of different pocky! Lychee, blueberry and my fav almond crunch! i must say blueberry one is the nicest!!!! nom nom nom!

Katong Chicken Rice

After our kinect session, my cousin suggested to head down to the east for a GOOD dinner to end the celebration well! OMG! AGAIN, my cousin was boasting about this best chicken rice in singapore… seriously i was a little erm… after the unsuccessful attempt of Lor Mee… but still i chose to TRUST and BELIEVE! hahahahahaa…

Here we are!

IMG_1325

Bright and Cheerful stall! I was infected with the bright and cheerful atmosphere though! Happy stall, happy stall owner, happy food and happy customers! That is what my boss always tell me! and i sincerely BELIEVE it! :))

i think food is very magical! It can lift up one’s spirit, and especially when it is prepared by someone with love! :) my 101 theory about food!

Katong Chicken Rice (Rating: 4.8 / 5.0)

IMG_1328

i love their chicken! The rice may not be so fantastic, but their chicken made it all up! cold white skin chicken tender and soft! LOVE IT TOTALLY!

if you know me well, i seldom have chicken rice outside, not that i don’t like chicken rice, but just that i find many stalls are selling sub-standard chicken rice that totally CMI!

IMG_1338

Their chicken meat is cold, yet without the ‘Leng Leng’ uncooked feeling… plus they don’t have a layer of those disgusting jelly fats… thumbs up for their skin!!!! according to ongmengching, eating chicken skin will make you look pretty! hahahaha… if you truly believe, it will happen!

IMG_1331

I love their bean sprout too! refreshing, love it with their fried garlic and soy sauce! a must order with the chicken rice!!!! craving it NOW! hahahahaa… :)

what i love about this stall is not only their tender chicken, but their generosity with their free flow of ah char ah char and soup!  I LOVE THEIR AH CHAR AH CHAR!!! very very very refreshing!!!!! big big piece of pineapple and well marinated!!! i love the happy aunty too and she actually stays really near me! hahahaha… this is really a MUST TRY!

itchy backside @ House, Barracks and Camp

Just to clarify why the title itchy backside… First of all… it started with two ex colleagues, now my buddies, Jane and Khloe, better known as zhiyun and huizhen… They suggested to go Dempsey for the birthday celebration… and we ended up at House, Barracks and Camp for a ATAS dinner! when the bill came, the two unemployed and myself was so SHOCK!!!! so we came up with the itchy backside award! Jane, the one who planned and research is the ULTIMATE ITCHY BACKSIDE, khloe the one who brought us there is the ADMINISTRATIVE ITCHY BACKSIDE, the me who is clueless where were we going is the BRAINLESS ITCHY BACKSIDE!

SO CREATIVE!!!! we are a lame group of people! i realize people who hang around me are becoming more and more lame! :) hahahaha… the power of INFLUENCE, the power of JOY, the power of LAME-NESS, the power of ME! :)) May the force be with me FOREVER! :) (this is really getting lame, please don’t give up on me!)

The Menu:

IMG_1195

it is kinda like the ambush at jurong point, comes in newspaper format…

Vintage Tea Party, you may want to consider…

IMG_1196

Thursday & Friday: 3pm to 5.30pm

Adult $22++ / Kids $15++

Tiffin Punch @ $59 (Rating: 4/5)

IMG_1194

The actual product… :( not so cute hor…

IMG_1198

Love this tiffin punch! AWESOME! They have ginger, grapefruit and lychee inside the punch… Alcohol yet with the sweetness of the lychee! NICE! but the price is a little too pricy, so think twice before you drink… if you drink, don’t nam nam cham of the price!!!! hahahahahhaa… worth it for the $59 for a little surprise!

Bay Prawn Capellini @ $22 (Rating: 3.5 / 5.0)

IMG_1199

I love their generosity of prawn! Huge fresh prawn served with the pasta, topping it is a layer of cheese… the pasta taste a little like chinese noodle, that is not to my liking… overall, the pasta is nice and yummy… i would recommend to those seafood or prawns lover! :) the plus point about this pasta is it is not too greasy even after you finish the whole plate!

Old Fashioned American Sliders @ $22 (Rating 3.8 / 5.0)

these burgers are not huge but THICK! the meat patty is THICK! They comes with cheese and bacons! Actually you are able to choose different combi for their burger… I have specially cut and paste for your reference! For the unhealthy three, of course JUST THE BACON AND CHEESE will do the job! I LOVE their truffle fries and sweet potato!!! PERFECT! the fries taste different from the common fries you find outside… theirs not too oily, come with a aroma of truffle… for the sweet potato, it is a PLUS! they fried it with sugar and it is SUPERB! for the sides, i would give a 4.0 if not for the unsatisfying burger…

image

Spaghetti Aglio Olio @ $26 (Rating: 3.8 / 5.0)

IMG_1207

Love their aglio olio! it is well cooked! the sauce is just nice with the right blend of chilli, garlic and saltiness is perfect! It’s hard to find good Aglio Olio, and this is NOT TOO BAD! I highly RECOMMEND this! :)) Thumbs up!

We had the dessert, but disappointingly my camera decides to play me out bcos i forgot to give it enough rest and feed it energy! So my poor readers, you can only imagine it while i describe…

if you REALLY KNOWS ME WELL… you knows that i don’t like cakes with too much sponge… so only REALLY GOOD CAKES catch my heart and make me want to blog even without the picture… :) okay lah… not to torture you, i have gotten the pictures from their website for you to have a better idea! :)

Warm Chocolate Toffee Cake @ $9.50 (Rating: 4.0 / 5.0)

image

Please hor… the picture is took from their website, so don’t expect to see this when you ordered! the actualy product is rather similar… it comes as a pleasant surprise! I seldom like cakes, and this is really nice! love the THICK WARM CHOCOLATE and the moist sponge cake and the sour raspberry! PERFECT!

Bitter Chocolate Tart (Rating 4.2 / 5.0)

image

this picture is for illustration purpose, taken from their website… the actual product look similar… this tart came on house for forgetting to inform us that strawberry shortcake is sold out… pleasant surprise! love this chocolate tart! although it is name BITTER, but really it is still SWEET! i love this tart! scoop up every single bit of it! THUMBS UP!

i concluded my trip at house, barracks and camp… the DESSERTS are simply AWESOME, the food is GOOD, the fried are HEAVENLY, the price is REASONABLE… although the three itchy backsides were a little shock with the price, but we all know, our stomach are full, so it’s okay when our pockets are empty… hahahaa… ah ya… seriously speaking, it’s all bcos of the tiffin punch! hahahaha…ultimate backside was the one who suggested to have it! hahahahaa… and we are FULLY SATISFY! every cent is well spent! (hahahahaa… it is my birthday treat, so my pocket didn’t really suffer! maybe that’s way i can be happily blogging this!) i highly recommend this place! :))

Long awaited Geylang birthday food trip!

Long time ago, my colleague Apple told me about this 126 dim sum… and i couldn’t stop thinking about it… and next she told me about this claypot rice that really gotten into me! i am thinking of claypot rice, claypot rice and still claypot rice… (if you know, i am going on a ‘strict’ diet!) hahahaha… so two weeks before my birthday, my colleagues told me that we are going for dinner TOGETHER, without much thinking… CLAYPOT RICE & DIM SUM!!!!

yayyyyyy!!!!! my wish came through and here we are at Geylang with all the GOOD FOOD everywhere! omg!!!! i couldn't wait to open my mouth and try all this SUPER HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOOD! :)

HE PING CAI GUAN

IMG_0933

Let me warn you! you got to call and order this claypot rice before visiting the place, unless you are willing to wait 1-3 HOURS for the claypot rice as they cooked their claypot on charcoal! omg!!! i know you are imagining the taste and salivating now! hahahahahaha….

IMG_0930

Ta da~ the legendary CLAY POT RICE! omg! the ingredient is super GAO GAO! hahahahahahahaa… once the person brings the claypot near us, we are all overwhelmed and EXCITED! (okay, just to clarify, it is ONLY ME who is SO excited… just in case my colleagues saw this sentence and kill me!) hahahahaa…

Another close up:

IMG_0929

am i making you hungry???? hahahahhaa… omg! look at the egg yolk, lak chiong, chicken!!! woohoo~

IMG_0928

They would take out all the ingredients and mixed the rice with the DARK SAUCE! i am not too sure whether is this the usual way of serving, or is it just that we have requested… anyway…. LOOK!!!! just the picture is enough to bring back the Good Old Savory!

other than the main actor, here are the CARE LEH FARE (so creative!)

Onion Egg

IMG_0927

This egg is super crispy! I LIKE!

Sambal Potato Leaves

IMG_0935

Can i say this is really NICE! i totally LOVE the sambal chilli they used!!!! HOT HOT HOT! As hot as me!!!!

Bean Curd

IMG_0934

Soft tofu! Love their sauce!

Overall the claypot rice is GOOD. I think they can cook a little longer to have more GOU BA… if you know what i mean… the over cooked rice all around the pot! Personally i would love to mix the rice together with the ingredients, believe it would taste even better! the unique thing about this stall is the use of charcoal to cook their rice! sometimes, the most original and traditional way is still the BEST way when it comes to handling FOOD!

We spend about $90 to feed 10 person… ordered two claypot, two potato leaves, one tofu, one egg.

148 Sims Avenue (off Geylang Lorong 19)

Next, we walk a little distance to… 126 Dim Sum!

IMG_0938

Finally i came! i heard so much, think so much, crave so much… and finally we meet on 08 July 2011! hahahahaha…

IMG_0941

My colleagues HIGHLY recommend their barley and sugar cane! Indeed their barley is NICE! with winter melon, it gives a sweeter taste! They even provide a spoon for you to scoop up the barley and winter melon! YUMMY!

IMG_0942

love their sugar cane! AWESOME! theirs is really refreshing! love it too! why do they to use those take away container ar? hahahahaha.. but i really love this idea! Easy to maintain, big and it MORE water!

Deep Fried Bananas

IMG_0949

I wouldn’t say this is a must try, it is really just banana in a spring roll form… but it is rather special! :) Maybe i can suggest to have this in my menu! But banana hard to keep hor?

Deep Fried Yam

 IMG_0950

OMG! i love this deep fried yam!!! yam paste packed in bread and they fried the bread till golden brown… but these yam looks a bit too black for golden brown! hahahaha…. if you catch what i mean! Chao Tah!

Signature Tofu

IMG_0951

eh…. i think rocher bean curd can add this to their fried tofu fries! They look totally alike, just that these goes really well with their mayo sauce!!!! mayo gou gou! after this plate of fried tofu, i feel so SINFUL! what’s for the 2kg that i lost? haizzz…. but thumbs up!

Otah

IMG_0952

this otah is suppose to be very every nice, but i think i am too full! i surrender after having one more bite of this! i can only remember the very THICK and GOU otah and meat! :))

Char Siew Pau

IMG_0953

NICE! i love their char siew pau! after the super full dinner at claypot rice, you must understand how nice it is for me to actually swallow this pau! small, soft and hot! yummy!

Chicken Feet

IMG_0954

chicken feet are suppose to be my favorite, but this chicken feet so so only… i prefer those sweeter ones! these are a little too salty and not sweet enough… a bit disappointed …

FINALLY THE LEGENDARY KOU ROU PAU!!!!!

IMG_0955

these are my FAVORITE !!!! i love them!!!! the skin are thin, the pork are gou gou, the taste is just nice! not too oily, and i feel like a saint after each bite! wooooo… really love these pauS! MUST TRY and THUMBS UP!
